Default Best years...LS?

Just wanted to find out what are considered the best yrs for the first gen/second gen LS? And also, how many generations of the LS are there?

One more thing, anyone have a site that points out the year to year differences between the LS?

There are 3 gens I believe. 90-94, 95-98, 99-?.

And of course, the best model is the 1997 Coach Edition.

I like the exterior styling of LS430 but prefer the 98 and newer LS400 290hp engine without the speed limiter.

To find out the year to year differences, go to edmunds.com. Find the year of the LS4 then select Editor's Review. You will have to repeat this for every year.

I know that 1997 was the end of the 2nd gens and the first with side airbags. 1998 brought quite a few front end cosmetic changes including the wheels of the 1997 coach addition became standard.

I love the classic style of the first gen LS. Of course, that's what I own . However, I wish I had Coach Edition leather!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the second gen LS's had better brakes...umm?

For 1st gen (1990-1994), see the link here (scroll all the way down the page to see the year-by-year changes: http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/L...exus1stGen.htm

For 2nd gen (1995-2000), see the "Model Library" section on lexus.com. Here is an example for MY 2000 http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_detai...0.html#changes You can backtrack to '98 and '99 as well in this link.

For 3rd gen (2001-date), this is more like a detective work.... have to search thro' many reviews. Here is one... see if you can find the comparos with 2nd gen models in this review... http://www.auto-asia.com/product/pro...02.02.01.shtml

For more look into LEXUS sites in general, here is the grand-daddy site for lex fans

http://lexus.start4all.com/

Hope this helps

My favorite body style for the "older" years are the second gens but I like the '98 and coach wheels the best which is why I went with the '97 coach (well that and price ).

Also, I was under the imrpession I had a 290hp engine but according to the info above its only 260hp? Hmmmm...

My favorite is the last year,to have a non interference engine. I have seen people that have had a timeing belt or chain jump and distroy the engine. cost many thousands of dollars. With the non interference engines that cannot happen. Michael Rybikowsky. Carpe Diem.
