The 5 -speed A650-E transmission carried over from 2000 LS400 to 2001 LS430.

Comparing p.n.'s the torque converters

appear different.

Anyone know differences between the two?

Thanks for any input.

Lexus transmission index indicates the A650E from 1998-2003.

And, 2001-2003

Part numbers will indicate which years the transmissions are from or for, but does not mean they are incompatible. The intelligence and the logic that communicates with it probably a different story I imagine but from what I see they are the same. An A650E is an A650E bare bones in my book, but I may stand corrected.

Most transmission components are same part numbers.

Did not compare valve body components or solenoids..

Tail shaft housings appear to be different.

There appears two different torque converters.
The 1998 - 2000 LS400 torque converter is discontinued (no superceding P.N.)., while the 2001-2003 LS430 currently shows available, so am inquiring about differences there. Stall.speed?

Probably a question for a technician familiar with each transmission.

i'm no technician but my conjecture is that the difference in torque converters is probably due to the difference in block design between the engines, and/or the crankshaft.
the trans might mechanically be the same but have different ECUs controlling them.

I took a 650e from a gs300 and swapped out the bellhousing and torque converter. Currently running smooth in my ls.

Valve body was bad so also reused the old one.

The gs300 was 02 supposedly. The trannies themselves were basically identical just bellhousing and torque converter.

nice!
the GS300 is a 2jz inline 6-cyl so the bellhousing difference makes sense but I didn't know the gearing would work on the 1UZ, plus that the factory ECU would be able to control it.
I always thought the GS trans was only 4-speed.

I know lol, but yea so far it feels the same as before. Gearing seems the same based on rpm at highway speeds.
