Default Weird starting issue

Let me start by saying my 99 would start strong in the mornings when the engine is cold. But when warm, say I go to a store for a few min to an hr I come back and I start it, itll start with strength but rpms will drop to 500 (a few instances turned off) then roar back. It did it once before the great replace. By that I mean when I had the PS pump (with new IAC valve) and timing kit (w water pump) were replaced. Granted when it was done the weather was around 70 now its 100-105. Gonna leave it at mechanics place to have tranny fluid changed and gonna ask him to look and see why. Before that, any ideas? lol

will the RPMs drop all in park (not in drive or loaded by the trans)?
low idle plagues these cars for many reasons.

Here's the weird behavior

Here's a normal start

Check engine is p0144 which mechanic narrowed down to charcoal canister.

I don't have obd2 but looking at what that p0144 code is, that would be O2 sensor. (bank 1 sensor 3)
Friend of mine has a Mazda doing the same thing and it was diagnosed as the purge valve. So your problem could be the charcoal canister, or it's related parts. How long has this been happening? Also, my 93 did that a few times but I never gave it a second thought cuz each incident was at least a couple months apart.

Can't recall, maybe December last year
Purge valve has been replaced. Vacuum lines. I'll ask my guy if he checked the O2 sensor....but just now looking at a denso one...$30 cheap replacement. I'm not worried about that right now though. I only mentioned it cuz it's in the video. Lol

Which o2 sensor? Or just replace both?

But yes charcoal canister was singled out

Paints fading on top tho. Need a front bumper and right fender. But man I underestimated the lack of care this car received form previous owners.

Not worried about cosmetic stuff right now, just getting all the neglected mechanicals sorted out first.
