1989/1990 LS400 wont stay on, new alterntor?
Hi this may have been discussed on here before, new memeber, first post..
I just bought this car and she was running well for about a month, then while we were driving, the radio turned off and shortly later thr car died. I took off the terminal after I jumped it and tje car instantly died. So I assumed alternator. I put two new alternators on and same thing, car will run with a jump, but dies shortly after. All the fuses/relays and fusible links are good. I tested the second alternator while it was running and im obly getting 6.4v...And ideas would be greatly appreciated

Where are you getting your alternator from? I seem to remember something about cheap rebuilt alternators not doing well on these cars.
The fact that you're going through alternators may also mean that the alternator is not the root problem, and that you may have an issue elsewhere that is causing this issue.
Does your power steering leak, or is your alternator wet when you remove it? If you have a leak, this is likely the reason why your charging system is failing. You may also want to check for bad grounds or electrical shorts in the wiring.

You can test your alternators to figure out what failed in them. This may give you a hint as to what the root problem actually is.
