1998 Lexus LS400 intermittent fault.
I have a 1998 Lexus LS 400 It has an intermittent fault, it might go a day or weeks but its frustrating. You are cruising along and suddenly the car will start to slow down,
you then have to put the throttle nearly to the floor before it pick up again. The problem then repeats its self, this might happen 4 or 5 times then the VSC alarm comes on and the car slows to a walking pace regardless of any amount of throttle. So I turn the ignition off, remove the key, wait a minute and restart the car and every thing might be fine for a day or for weeks , There is just know way of knowing. (1) I have cleaned the throttle body. (2) I have renewed the airflow sensor (3) I renewed all the capacitors in the ECU. All to no avail, the problem still persists, its a real pain in the xxxx especially if you are in the outside lane on the motorway and it happens.
Now I wont attempt any long journeys. has anyone got a clue what it could be, other wise I will have to get rid of it. I might add I have had the car for 18 years and the fault started about five years ago but not very often but now it is more frequent. ( its driving me nuts )

Hi. I think I once lived in Kent as a little kid. I was about 4-5, so I don't remember much of those days.
How many miles on it? I had a soft failing fuel pump that had many weird symptoms, some of which aligned with what you're reporting here. I debugged the he11 out of it (search on here for my posts on the topic), and all of that work basically ruled out everything else. So I then replaced the fuel pump, even without anything pointing directly to that. And that was it. Perfect since then.
