I'm an "mod an upgrade" sort myself. There's lots of little details that can be done that aren't really expensive. The gated shifter mod is on my list, I just need to source an extra 90-94 gear selector and marry it to a 95-97.

There's also a ton of maintenance that you should check on first. The ECU is pretty major, and super cheap to fix, if you're handy with a soldering Iron. These are the sorts of cars that are great stock OR with serious mods and builds. It's really all in how you like your ride.

Welcome to the club!

Welcome to the club.
Just keep up on the maintenance so it runs and drives good seeing how this is your "first car". The car should run better then it looks. Nothing worse then having a good looking car sitting in the driveway because it's broke down. I would wait a few months before putting major money into it just to make sure it's worth it.
Congrats on getting your first car.

EXCELLENT advice.Follow it.As for purty, rub it out and polish it and clean it for now.Go no further until its mechanically all correct.Putting lipstick on a pig is bad advice, and weve all seen it.
DO NOT CLEAN THE ENGINE WITH A PRESSURE WASHER,BAD THINGS HAPPEN!!

go to lextreme.com if you're looking for performance upgrades and info

the LS is more of a just turn the key and enjoy the blissful serenity type car, if you want a toyota product with a lot of performance potential get a 2JZ powered vehicle

The OEM did many things well, but left room for improvement.

Check out YODAONE posts for a range of ideas.

From a maintenance perspective... ANYTHING made of rubber...
