1st post!!! looking for a good ls400
Hello everyone,
im looking to buy a used ls400, my budget is around 10k, so i think i will be limited to a 93-95 model.
my question is this...what should i look for when buying a used ls400, from what i have gatherd, it seems the dash lights and/or lcd gos bad and the power steering pump leaks on the alternator, is this all that gos wrong.
i have read the lexus and its engine are some of the best in the world, is this the case?
i have been seeing cars anywere from 85,000 to 150,000 miles for around 10k.
is this the going rate, im in so calif.
im looking for a reliable car with a very smooth and quiet ride and from what i have gatherd this is the car.
thank you all for any help.

Welcome lexsee!
I agree that you should make sure it was properly maintained. Ask to see the records!!!! This way you know what has been done. I wouldn't buy another car without seeing the records first, especially a Lexus since repairs are expensive. Here is a good list of common items that need replacement: http://www.cureline.net/lex/howtos/info_service.htm
In addition to this make sure the A/C works!!!! I'm currently getting mine fixed and it's costing lot's of $$$. Just replaced the rack assembly which was around $700 or $800, those are non-dealer prices too. Also see if the front upper control arms have been replaced, that's about $600-$800 just for the parts.
So the bottom line is to carefully check maintainance records. I believe you can get a printout at the dealer of anything the dealer has fixed using the VIN number.

I bought a 93 pre-owned LS with 54K miles years ago. I traded it around 96K miles without a single problem. Try to make sure 90K service is done else it will be costly (Lexus dealer here charges around $1,550 for 90K service plus timing belt and water pump). Front and Rear brake jobs is another $500 but lower from non-Lexus shop. Have fun finding your LS.
