I have a 1990 ls400 only 80,000 miles. I'm thinking of parting it out. is there much demand for used parts. and where would be the best place to sell the parts.

I don't know how much demand there is in your area, because a lot of older cars rust out in Michigan, but you could list the parts on the CL Marketplace, Ebay, or Craigslist. The choice of where to list depends on how far you are willing to deliver parts.

Also, what color is your car, and why the part out? Heh.

its pearl white, there is no rust that I see it was mostly kept in the garage didn't not see a winter until 2009.
reason for parting out. it needs a new power steering line. its been sitting for about 5 years and interior needs a good cleaning. however I did start it every 6 months or so and always started as if I just turned it off. so thought it would be a good winter project to part out and get more cash out of it

Ah, I see. Darn. I'm sure it would make a nice project car for someone, but I understand your rationale.

Craigslist is good for local sale, CL Marketplace is good for local and out-of-state sale (plus, you get LS owners), and Ebay is mostly good for out-of-state/global sale.

Craigslist for sure. You can sell the entire car here in the Marketplace, but you cannot post a part out since you have zero Club Lexus history and part outs are traditionally very high risk sales (see classified rules).

Need to be sure this doesn't turn into a sales thread please. If it does it'll end up getting locked or removed.

If you have the space to dismantle the vehicle and catalog the parts. You could make a killing selling everything on Ebay. You would need to dismantle and photograph what you are selling.

Friend into motorcycles does that.Sold 2 bolts and a aluminum washer today for 25 bucks that holds on cam on a 35 year old ATV.After expenses he got 20 bucks in his paypal.Selling parts on ebay can work out real well,and the amount of possible buyers is crazy!!!!!

I think the ebay deal is a bunch of trouble, keeping track of who gets what, and trips to the PO, boxing and packing huge pain, and yeah photo's removing the parts etc.
Same with parting out on craigslist or where ever, if you let the person remove parts then lots of other parts get ruined. If you remove them lots of your time.
In the end you still got some junk to deal with, if your in a housing complex neighbors may not like it. I think best to just sell the whole car. Or take parts off you want and call a junk yard to come get it.

Key parts are clean interior pieces, headlights, tails and body panels. A clean dash cluster, center console, working radio are desirable. The rest of the hardcore are so-so. The suspension if in good condition may also be decent sellers but stripping those leaves the car on jack stands. My thought is sell the easy bits and let the wreckers or buyer take the shell with intact suspension so that it is easily moved. You will get more for the parts but the time and bother to ship is not going to be fun...with dicer's post #9 overall.

ECU,keys with door,trunk and ignition locks would be keepers too.Any actuator motors,sunroof motors,tilt/telescopic motors,does the 90 have that?Door switches? Small easy to mail parts would be worth the effort to remove,store and sell.Do like RA40 suggests above?

My friend with the ebay motorcycle business does small parts there,then larger parts he sells on Offer Up with local pick-up.He also makes youtube videos and mentions he has parts ("drop me a line for parts you need"),draws in customers there too.

Me? I think I'd sell it as parts car,runs and moves,and be done with it.

On a 1 lb package in an envelope,25 dollar sale.13% goes to ebay and paypal,7% for mailing via USPS.So 20% costs in that example.Bud figures what he wants to net,adds fees to that and then lists it to get him his desired total.He was just explaining this to me the other day.
