Default Wholesale price 2000 LS400?

Does anybody know a Black Book price for 2000 LS400 with 55K miles and Platinum edition? How much will this car bring at dealer-only auction in South-west region(Texas)? Can anybody lookup prices from a recent Manheim auction?

Thanks

Thumbs up

I have seen them going for $24000 in High Line Dealer's Auction in Las Vegas Nevada, however I do not think it is the Platinum Edition.

Here is a report I ran for 2000 LS400 sold at Auction for the last 30 days. These are the exact price all the dealer paid across the country. This file is sorted by Color then price. I have no idea what some of these color codes mean (ALSLV). I hope this helps.

I would like to thank Norta for the excellent information he brought to our attention. Clublexus consists of many outstanding members who share their experience and knowledge with the rest of us.

I am shocked by very high prices that dealers pay for 2000 and 1999 LS. Can they really sell those cars with a profit?
Black Book for 2000 Lexus is $25K. Most cars were sold for much more than $25k. This year there will be (almost sure about it) new generation of LS4???. As soon as new model is released, fewer people will buy 2000 LS400 which is 2 generation old for more than $25K.

If somebody looks at E-BAY, the same car can be purchased for $3-5K less than at dealer's auction. It seems that private sellers can make more money if they would sell their cars at those auctions. Somebody could buy cars on E-BAY and resell at Manheim auction. Is it possible there is 1% of crazy/mad dealers who pay too much money for these cars? Is it possible that they loose money on these cars?

I am completely lost trying to analyze this information. I always thought that 2000 LS400 would never be sold for more than $24K at dealer's auction. There was information that 99 GS400 is being sold for as little as $18K at these auctions. Is there a big price gap between LS and GS?

I agree there is a big discrepancy between Black Book and these wholesale prices. Last year when I was looking to buy my 98 LS400 I was very excited because the Black Book values was very reasonable, I forgot the exact numbers but somewhere from say $24k - $26k. Well I went to the Manheim High Line Auction in South Florida all excited to drive away with a car. I was looking for a white one and there were about six of them. Mileage was about the same in all between 25k to 29k and all about the same options (none had Nav). The real difference was the condition of the cars. Some were somewhat clean, no dings, but most were very dirty, one or two had cracked wood steering wheels (known problem, fixed even out of warranty by dealer). I even saw one car with a bad Radio Display, this concerned me because in my 91 LS I have to replace the A/C display. Anyways one car was so disgustingly dirty I was grossed out to even sit in it, but unfortunately it had the best paint and mileage and was the one I was trying to bid on. It looked like the owner ALWAYS drove with the windows open down black dusty roads. The entire headliner and back seat were just coated with a deep thick black layer. Its must have taken the dealer who bought it hours to clean that mess up. I was not happy in thinking if I won the auction I would have to clean that, but I was more than willing to do it in order to save $5 - $6k based on the Black Book numbers.

Well the point of this long winded post is that when the bidding began on these cars the shark frenzy began. Each car goes up one at a time and eachtim ethe same frenzy. My buddy and I were positive I was driving away with a car because I was ready to pay up to $29k plus auction fees. Well ALL of the White LS400 went for over that price within 30seconds of the bidding on each car. We were floored. Some of the other colors like Silver and Black also brought top dollar. A gold one sold for a fair price but a Green and a burgundy sold for just about Black Book. The point being that Our LS400 still have a very high demand in the used Luxury Car market. Black Book values just don't apply. It goes against every thing we think and know but its such a great car people are will to pay. We left the Auction disappointed and empty handed.

Ebay cars, well I don't know how your doing you search but make sure you looking at "Completed Auctions". Go to the Lexus section and type in the search box LS400, DO NOT click on the LS (58) categories link. Once the LS400 show up go to the middle left box called Display and click on "Completed Items". That will show you all the closed Auctions. There you can go one by one and see what the cars have sold for. I just check one that showed a 98 with 75k ending for $15.9 BUT when you open that item you see that the Reserve was NOT met so the car did not sell. DO you research this way and you will get a True feeling for what the cars are selling for.

Finally Like I said I shopped last year like a mad man trying to buy a 99 or 98. The next part is a copy of a previous post I had made telling all of you my 98 LS400 purchase story. If you have read it than just skip it. I keep posting it because you can find a great car of the right price. It just takes patience and lots of shopping. To give you the short and sweet I bought a 98 with 24k miles for $28,500 last year from a private "rich" person. The car is a "Perfect 10" cream puff. It looks Showroom new no kidding.
I did tons of research to find this LS. Every day THREE time a day I logged onto AutoTrader.com, EbayMotors.com, Cars.com, and all my local papers web sites. This was a pain especial since I was doing this at work too. But I ended up with the deal of the century. So consistent shopping pays off. I almost bought a car of ebaymotors but backed out at the last minute cause the condition was not as good as I wanted. I ended up getting my car from an ad on Cars.com. That web site pulls ads from all the US newspapers, but I had to really widened my search area to over 100 miles to find my car. It was a tiny piddly little ad that just red 98 LS400 25k $28,500 and phone number with no area code and no color. I did not call for a couple of days cause I figured at that price it must have had something wrong or a cheesy color. Remember this was almost a year ago so $28 was a steal. So anyways I looked up the Area code and called. The very next day I drove the 100 miles to see the car.

Well actually before I went up there I spoke to the owner at length about the condition. We was older and very vague with detail. He just kept saying the car is clean and in his opinion it was fine. He told me repeatedly that if when I got there I did not like it I did not have to buy it. That alone made me very scared but being that the car only had 24k miles on it I figured it should have been in Phenomenal shape. So I tell him I'm going up the next day with two Check and to hold the car for me and consider it sold.

I was freaking out all that night hoping the car was the right one and hoping I would not be disappointed when I got there as I had been many times before. The next day I had my checks ready and my wife and I took of to the West coast of Florida to see/ buy the car. 100 miles later we are in his neighbor hood and were thoroughly impressed. This was a Boating community with all the houses on the water and each house was in the Millions. The owners house was just amazing. They were a very nice retied couple in their 60's. The second he opened the Garage I was ready to buy the car. I open the drivers door peeked in and said I'll take it. He actually forced me to test drive it. Now let me explain some more. This house was huge and had a Six Car Garage. Also sitting next to it was a Brand New SC430. These people had Cash and the space to baby their cars. Anyways the wife was selling car because they have 6 grand kids and she no longer used it. She now rarely drives and when she does she drives a 2001 Toyota minivan and has a 2003 on order. This was her 5 Lexus and has babied the car. I told her thank you for taking car of my new car so well. So I went for the test drive by myself and of course went through the car with a fine tooth comb, but it was spanking brand new. No Dirt, no stains, no tears, NOT ONE ding or scratch. It was showroom new.

Sorry for the long post but hope the info helps
Jerry
