Question about suspension
What should I be looking out for when inspecting suspension that has 220k+ miles on it? Wanting to change things out because it's all original. |
Are you buying suspension with 220k miles? If so, don't.
If you are looking to replace suspension with 220k miles, just look for cracks in seals, check LL bushings, use a bright flashlight to check for gaps in connection points |
I've already purchased it.
Fairly cheap. Was looking for the source of the clunking when the brakes are applied. Doesnt handle bumps very well either. Snapped my radiator neck. |
Are you saying that the clunking was present before you put on new suspension?
|
They are likely loose and to figure any/all of the rubber parts are due. This also includes the engine, tranny and rear carrier mounts. For the immediate clunking the strut bar cushions are typical. Followed by the upper and lower control arm bushings as well as the ball joints. Check the tie rods as well. Steering rack mount bushings if there is a dead spot that shows up when turning indicating the rack may be slightly shifting. Sway bar bushings as well.
