Hi guys.

Anyone removed the Hydraulic fan from an early celsior? I'm trying g to decide what fans to use. Need a dual fan that's compact.

Have no idea what all is the same on a hydraulic fan car vs the standard belt drive. You may or may not need the fan bracket, and you will need everything else that a belt drive one has. A wrecking yard is where to start. You may need the serpentine pulleys and tensioner, I really don't know. I have never seen the hydraulic fan. Find a belt drive and take some pictures and study it a bit.

Im not going to be using an old belt drive or clutch fan. I am wanting to replace with an electric dual fan system.

I've had this saved from Lextreme. I've been thinking about converting to electric fans myself, so I can do his reverse alternator mount, saving it from potential power steering leaks.

Let me know if you do this, and please post pictures. I would really like to see.

Hey guys. Im going to have this job done this week. Will record the process and may make a YouTube video also. Will keep y'all posted. I noticed quite a large leak in the Fan hose yesterday so no more procrastination

Removed Hydraulic fan assembly today and my electric fan arrived. WIll install tomorrow. Notice a split ignition wire under the fuse box from a previous mod. This will be a pain to repair as it is close to the fuse box itself.

The Electric Fan and Hydraulic fan assembly. There is a massive amount of space free in the engine bay. Relocating the battery would have loads of clearance for further mods.

Just the fans side by side. Sorry. Had a lot of notes but didnt want to ad them on my mobile. Will edit pics with notes and info when I get a minute.

Removed all radiator hoses first. Then used 17mm socket to remove the bold from the top of the fan hub.
The second hose on the fan is held by a clamp. Removed all clamps and hoses and removed the assembly

wow looks like a different fan setup from the US models.
we have a viscous fan clutch attached to the serp belt, not a hydraulic one.
never seen anything like this in person for an LS400 (Celsior)!

Definitely trial and error as the tutorials I found online were not for the jdm system.

Not sure what to do about the clutch system for this or if it's even similar to the ls400.

Water pump just arrived so I'll get that out of the way too. After I fix this ignition wire. Off to buy some solder

This is the mess I need to fix before moving forward. There were 2 joins in the ignition wire. So hard to solder in this tight space.

The clutch is different from the LS fan parts, but there might be more info on the 1st gen SC forum. I believe the hydraulic fan system used on your Celsior is identical to the system used on the SC 400.

Celsiors seem to have the same hydraulic fan setup as the SC 400s. I wonder if this was for performance purposes..

Celsiors did not have the EGR systems that LS models have, either.
