Default problem with persistent misfire on 97 LS 400

I have a `1997 Lexus LS 400 with 108K miles on it There is a persistent misfire on one cylinder but it moves from cylinder to cylinder. We have had countless parts replaced including the computer rebuilt/reconditioned and it still goes on. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm ready to scrap the thing but I'd like to keep it and let my daughter drive it, as it is low use and a good car.

You need someone with a good scan tool to check it out, way cheaper than replacing expensive parts, fuel trims would be very helpful, is the miss while just sitting or driving as well? Its a good thing to have the newer than Gen 1 cars. Your car is OBD2 and is way better to trouble shoot with a quality scan tool.

List the cylinders that have the miss. see if they are related to a assigned coil and rotor/cap.

Sounds like a typical shop of idiots, with zero trouble shooting skills. What brand of scan tool did they use?

Do not give up on it just yet, have a reputable mechanic look at it to figure out the issue. Most of the time it is something very simple.

when a car misfires I always replace the spark plugs first. most of the time it clears the issue. start with the easy stuff first then go from there.

they replaced the cats?! wow that's expensive...

Perhaps defective fuel.injector or....someone dinged a valve while servicing timing belt (?)

I thought he said all that was replaced? Maybe not? And yes X2 that is normal tune up maintenance stuff. Then get a good scan tool on it.
