Default 99 ls400 tilt on steering wheel.

I recently posted about the wheel and saw where I was told to apply grease to the motor which makes the wheel go in and out, I need to find the location of the motor that makes the wheel go up in down not in and out, thanks

You’re comment was totally unrelated to what I was doing. I asked if something fit, not how to remove the vents. And I have done my research, nothing helps at all.

Let’s keep in mind I’m 17 and have no knowledge on working on cars and am new to this forum. I’m sorry I don’t understand everything about this car? My comment from way back about the vents wasn’t towards you it was more so my anger towards this broken down **** my apologies.

Kam,this is going to be a very difficult car to learn to be a self taught mechanic.Something like an early 80's Toyota pick-up would be ideal as its as simple a vehicle as possible, and has plenty of room to get in and do repairs to it.Might not be what you want, but transportation and knowledge you do want, that type vehicle will get you that.

My dad raised me with a wrench in my hand, and before age ten or so I could rebuild a Renault 4 banger and do the valves, all by myself.Im over 60 now and I find this LS400 an intimidating car to wrench on.Like a lot is way over my head and dont want to touch it,so at least Im arming myself with knowledge for when I do have to farm out repairs.

Really consider something else,no newer than mid 80's,and whatever it is,a 4 banger and plenty work space would make your desire to learn how to fix a car far easier and you and your buddies are bound to have one that has a smattering of repair knowledge that could really help you along.

Im not being an azz or dismissive, thats how I learned, and you can to.Makes it a pleasure and not a frustrating very expensive lesson in being in over your head.

Also you obviously have little experience in a car forum.Only a few are populated by rude idiots ,and this isnt one .Being very polite will return the karma in spades, get angry and and are done.lesson learned,eh? Folks ARE doing you a favor and expect at least some gratitude for their efforts. Apology? Well done on that.

this old shop made me a good living...
As long as we are being honest with a 17 year old, since I shot my mouth off and ruined his day, I turn 84 in June, ran a 7 stall shop in Richardson for 30 years, had 5 gas stations before I bought it, and done mechanics as a teenager with my dad overseeing it all...
And I agree with Spuds, you are entering College right out of grade school with a 99 LS... but.... you can do it.. take time to learn how to search on this forum, EVERYTHING has been dealt with in one way or another on these cars.. I wish you good luck...

It won’t be easy That’s for sure, but there’s not one other car I would happily invest in, maybe a 90s sc400, but other than that I can’t imagine driving anything else, I’m trying my best to learn this car in and out and get it to Atleast 500,xxx

Best wishes. They are awesome cars.if you can learn this car, there isnt much you cant do as a home handyman mechanic. If you are good at general mechanics and fiddling around, you CAN do this.

Invest in a factory service manual for this car and you'll know more than you ever want to know about how to fix this car. Its a big investment, kind of like an engineering textbook for college, but you won't ever have a question about replacing parts or where they're located. I did that for my 93 Accord when I got fed-up paying hundreds of dollars, even thousands one time for a transmission at a mechanic every couple months in college. $20 on craigslist was the best money spent. You already have a leg up with access to this forum. Back in 2003-2005, I didn't have anything to go off of.

This forum is helpful for those weird symptoms that happen after 20 yrs that the Toyota engineers didn't think about or wouldn't really have known about when developing the car. With that, use the advanced search feature and think of words that commonly would associate your problem and go from there.
