Default Need to replace trunk lift supports on 2000 LS 400...

And am only finding one aftermarket source, which is Lift Support Depot sold by amazon.com, newegg.com, etc. All seem priced at $60 per pair.

Anybody used these or have other sources for these lift supports?

Thanks,

Eddie

seem to fit 1995 - 2000 LS400.. and not much demand for them, try a salvage yard until more want them... I have owned 13 different LS, and never saw a weak one. you must use yours several times a day.

Thanks billy.

No idea how many times my trunk has been opened/closed as I just bought it last week. It will stay open if all the way up, but will close if at any point below fully open.

I assumed (I know, I know) that it should work like the hood and stay open when placed partly open. And it certainly would not take much for it to close one someone's head.

I think I'll just spend the $60 to make sure it's as right as it can be.

Thanks again,

Eddie

That sounds pretty much how mine works, always has, and I consider that to be how it is supposed to work.

It will not push itself up into the full-up position like the hood does, but that's a different situation. The hood cannot go straight up, so it needs the strut to push it. Not so with the trunk.

We've had ours since 59K miles and the trunk operation same now as back then. Full open or closed, it will not remain partially open by itself. Unlikely that the lifts need to be changed.

Same with hood. With both (fresh) lifts installed it will push the hood up. As the lifts age they lose some of their pressure to raise the hood yet in full open they will keep the hood up. Any place below and they will close.

That's the type of chair I could use Billy. I have enough time spent at the screen that getting numb body parts isn't fun. Sleeping, not a chance in the one I have.

Thanks for everyone's comments.

Me thinks it's working exactly as designed so I ain't replacing anything having to do with the trunk.

Just a comment: on my 99, my trunk pops open with remote, just sets there, lifts it up and it stays open... lower it about half way and it stays open.. I believe this to be normal.. see photos, anything lower than half and it starts closing..
