Default 98 LS400 on GT Radial Champiro IcePro winter tires :)

Picked up a set of GT Radial Champiro IcePro's for the LS I recently purchased. I've had them before on a FWD and AWD vehicle and they were great in Minnesota winters, great grip in snow, ice, rain and dry. They dont feel vague and sloppy in dry like most dedicated snow tires I've had, like Michelin X-Ice Xi3 and Blizzak WS80s and for the price they are excellent. Only thing some people might not like is the noise, they are pretty loud. The Michelin Defenders that were on before were silent! Otherwise I have no complaints and would recommend it to anyone looking for a winter tire. I am using 225/60/16 size tires.

Had a great time driving though last nights snow fall in MN. There were a lot of unplowed roads.

at first i forgot about the power selector button. i bottomed out in certain spots, VSC would kick it and make it slower to get out turning that off helped get out of some situations. then i remembered snow mode. what a difference! snow mode was helpful getting out of deep snow without slipping and made it fun going up hill. i tested it out more today and it works really well. my trunk is empty. I will try it out more this week with a few sand bags in there.

can you drive with snow mode on?

I just used snow mode today. Its very good to keep you from spinning wheels when you hit a snowy/icy spot.Really does help. The engine has so much torque just a touch of accelerator pedal can spin tires, snow mode prevents that.I was surprised how well it worked.

thanks! if mine was pristine and had lower miles I probably would garage it. Plus this thing loves the snow.

Discount Tire. $84 each plus they were having a instant $75 off a set of winter tires and another $50 mail in rebate.

They have General Altimax Artic tires (which are pretty much the same thing but a known brand) for the same price but I would have had to wait a week to get those and I needed tires asap. My next option was Nokian Hakka 7 ($90) which I have on my Volvo XC90, those are awesome but again I would have had to wait a while to get those. I have no complaints other than tire noise, which is expected from winter tires.

Im only driving mine on mostly plowed roads but ICE still is an issue as snow folks well know.Anything coming down its Jeep with BFG T/A KO tires,GREAT tires on ice BTW,thats why we have it.Even better, now I can just stay home, life is good.

You got a screaming good deal. Will be interesting to see longer term how they perform, hope you update this thread over a couple years.I'd like to know miles they get,and how wear affects grip going forward.

I saw these at tireRack getting good reviews.Better than the holy grail Blizzak according to some folks.A FWIW as an option for folks, nothing more, just fine ratings.

The previous owner spec'd those tires, only in the all season version and they do ride really nice and plush with the factory setup. I've got some Blizzak WS70s that I picked up on CL for 200 in a 245/45/18 size mounted on some IS350 AWD wheels that look pretty awesome. They barely cleared the front brakes too and hookup great in the snow as well.

what tips are those? did you have to cut the bumper to make them work? they look nice. I was debating between two dual 3in tips vs single 4in tips. still not sure yet.

I believe they're Vibrant 3.5" dual tips. If you search the member KOZY on here, I bought his car, and he did all the fab work to make it work. He did cut the bumper along with a rear muffler delete to make it come straight out.

Found it!

I think these are what he used:
