How to put wipers up in Winter time
So, let me start off and say this is my first REAL midwest winter, I've only been in AZ prior to moving to MI and had no clue why people used to put their wiperblades up when watching pictures of cars in the midwest. I now know its to prevent them from freezing to the windshield.
Is there a way I can lift the wipers up from the windshield on my 97 LS? It seems like the hood prevents them from lifting up, I even had to turn the wipers on and shut the car off when changing them to make it easier. Would this be the only way I can prop them up like other cars do to prevent freezing to the windshield?

yeah seems easy enough to do this. I'd rather not try and pull on the arms or whatever to engage a winter mode.

bumping this, since we're about to get dumped on for 6" of snow and should hit -12F mid week.
Are there covers available or things that you can slide the wipers into and then remove when you go drive off? I think this might be a better solution to keep them from freezing to anything. I was thinking a long tube sock, but that might get wet if the snow is slushy and freeze, causing another problem.
EDIT: I bought one of those Frost Guard windshield covers that has a 600DPFE Polyester and PVC backing that should cover my wipers and windshield on those cold days preventing the frost. Problem solved! for only $10

I like the cover idea better than leaving them at 12 o'clock position. If you get lots of snow/ice, then based of the wiper can still freeze. When you turn the car on the wipers will automatically want to go to rest position, even if you turned the switch off after turning the car off. This could cause some other damage with the wipers trying to work when they are frozen at the base. No experience here, just guessing this could happen.
