Default What Power Steering Fluid

In searching the forum, it seems that the consensus on what power steering fluid to use in our LS is Dextron III or IV. Would everyone agree thats correct for a 1998 LS400?

Thanks,
hms09

Somehow my power steering fluid post bleeds into this unrelated post on transmission fluid (I agree that only use type.IV in our transmissions)

I did a fluid exchange with Valvoline max life. Basically sucked out the old fluid in the reservoir 4-5 times after filling it and starting turning lock to lock, then repeating until I saw it change to a nice red color.

Hope this is useful for you: I use this item to suck out the oil, takes 10 seconds, and gets the oil out from in the middle of the hole in the reservoir. I change mine every oil change, i.e. every 5K miles.

I just used a Mityvac vacuum bleeder with a reservoir attachment. Has a 4 oz reservoir so its a little small but the reservoir doesn't take much more than that so it works for my needs. Also bleeds brakes one man without the need for a pedal pusher. About 30-40 bucks at Autozone.....basically a rebranded Mityvac. Their name is OEM tools but the bleeder itself has Mityvac stamped on it.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Got it done with your help. Much appreciated! And Just FYI, I called my dealer parts guy and he said to use anything that said Power Steering Fluid. Bad advice in my opinion. I bought a Prestone product that listed Lexus among others. Thanks again. Project complete!
