Default 1998 Lexus LS400 Fog light bulb upgrade

Vehicle: 1998 LS400

the halogen bulbs i currently have installed in the fogs are sylvania basic 55w bulbs. I would like to get a little more light output from the fogs. IS it as simple as getting a brighter 9006 halogen bulb ? e.g a 100w bulb . IS this overkill for the fog lights? any issues with running a 100w bulb in the fogs ? Does heat become a concern ?

thanks

The wiring, plastic connector shells amd relay barely tolerate the 55W Halogen bulbs, so consider how circuit wiring will ever tolerate 100W without modifications.

Moreover, the bulbs reside in a plastic lense housing so roughly twice the amount of wattage which 90% is dissipated as heat and 10% as light.

However if you can locate a quality plug-and-play LED bulb that draws 15-20 watts then you have something.

LED bulbs are much more efficient: about 90% light output and 10% heat generation so about 100W halogen equivalent light output with a 10W LED.(even if only 80% efficient LED is way to go.

Not recommended for the reasons YODAONE mentions. My suggestion would be the HID assemblies from the HID equipped 98+ or do an HID retrofit with the varying projector kits that can be modded in.

Edit: My head must be elsewhere, read the fog light but brain went into headlight mode.

Anyone purchased this product to replace their fog lamp bulbs who can comment?

72 W LED powe conumption should equal 720 W equivalent LED ight output (we think in watts....which is power consumed, not light output (lumens)) or is it equivalent 72 W incandescent or halogen light output?

It talks about a cooling fan....this is a mechanical device that makes noise and consumes power.

This suggests the design did not consider thermal management

LED lightbulbs

Where is the product manufactured??

I have experience selling LED's

The front fog lights on my 2000 LS400 were never particularly good. The lenses were cruddy and barely produced useful light by the time the car was six or seven years old. Restoring the fog light lenses with a lens restoration kit at the same time I restored the headlight lenses made them crystal clear and improved output noticeably. I've used several lens restoration kit brands and the one from Sylvania is the best IMO - less than $20 on Amazon Prime the last time I checked. A kit has enough product to restore both the headlight and fog light lenses.

The main purpose of front fog lights is to allow seeing the road edges when driving very slowly in very low visibility conditions: https://www.danielsternlighting.com/...fog_lamps.html

I think I've had the front fog lights of the vehicle I drive most on only four times so far in 2017 and usually only for only a few minutes each time. Three of the four times were only so I could turn on the rear fog light in torrential rain so extreme that people were stopping on the highway shoulder or just plain stopping in their lane due to not being able to see where they were going. I've come to appreciate windshield water repellent treatments like Rain-X but I have to remind myself that other people can't see to drive when I can.

You could get yourself some 9006 Performance Halogen Bulbs if you are just looking for a bit of an upgrade, or you could go with a full on conversion kit. You could use HIDs without worrying too much about heat (since the 9006 halogens are already 55W to start with), but the smaller Fog Light housings tend to give you a lot of glare if you put an HID in there - "overkill" indeed.

Because of the glare, a 9006 LED Kit would be a better choice for Fog Lights.
