Viscous Fan cap leak.
 

Hey guys.

I have noticed that my fan fluid is leaking from the cap when she start reving high and heating up. There is no gasket or grommet on the fan cap. Was there one from the factory?? Any tips on sealing?

I just went out and checked mine, there doesn't seem to be any kind of gasket on mine. The center part of the inside of my cap is rubber, I assume that's how it seals with the opening of the reservoir.

It's difinately coming out if the cap when it start pumping. The rubber center appears to be in good shape. I may look into servicing the whole unit. Maybe there is a blockage causing it to build too much pressure and forcing it out the cap.

Yeah, no problem! I still haven't got much experience with these yet, but at least here in the US Celsiors are pretty rare so I can understand how it might be hard to get that kind of information. Yamae seems to have quite a bit of knowledge on the second gen cars, and I believe he said problems with this system are fairly rare. If you do end up moving to an electric fan that'd probably eliminate the problem along with the source haha.

Please educate me, what is a fan cap? I'm assuming it has something to do with the cooling fan.

So in the first Gen Celsiors the radiator is no electronic. It uses a separate reservoir and power steering fluid and is powered that way.

Yeah, to be clear this is one of those small differences between LS400s and Toyota Celsiors. If you've got an LS400 don't worry, there's no hidden additional fluid for you to worry about haha

So I solved the issue of the leak. I just cut a rubber washer and sat it under the original rubber seal to make it thicker and there is no more leak. Maybe the part on mine was not originally of this car.
