Default 99 Wiper Woes

This started as an intermittent problem that would show up after the car was running for about 10 minutes. Wipers would just stop.

Mist nothing.
Delay setting nothing.
Lo setting nothing.
Hi works, but won't park.

Now the problem has become permanent.

Things I have checked so far (all check good).

Wiper fuse / wiper motor / wiper switch.

The switch is supplying power to the right terminals when in low or delay, but it doesn’t seem to get to the harness at the motor. Is there a relay or module somewhere in between the two that could be bad?

Thanks,

John

Anybody? I've noticed the wiper delay setting on the switch just runs the wires into the harness. So there must be some box doing the delay somewhere.

Could someone with a factory manual please help?

It runs through the body ecu.

Thank you very much! Would this be the unit on the steering column? Does it need to be programmed to match anything, or can I just get a junkyard unit and slap it in?

I'm not aware of any programming needed. The body ecu is by the instrument panel fuse box just under the far left air vent.

Ok. Pulled it and examined it. Board looks fine, but without a schematic it's tough to go deeper.

The body ecu would be the least likely problem, I think. For one, it's listed as the least likely in the manual, and if there was a problem with it, it would most likely manifest in other problems, since it is involved with many other systems. I think I would take another look at the switch.

Since you are observing the inside, you'd better to check relays connected to the G34 connector which has 20 pins and colored milk-white. Motors receive the 12V DC via relays in the MPX body computer (Body ECU). For your reference I attach the connector's drawing below. This connector supplies the DC 12V to motors. There are 2 motors that are related to the wiper. One is just to push up blades and the other to wipe the wind shield. If it's the relay which is failed, simply replace it using an equivalent. If the relay is OK, check the relay driving circuit. Sorry that I only can give you this much. It has been many years since I have seen inside and I don't remember the details.

So most likely the two relays on the bottom left?

So I was having too much trouble finding data sheets and info on this module. It was just taking too much time. Searched around and found a Body Control Module at a yard that would ship. Just installed it. That was indeed the problem. Wipers work fine now!

Thanks very much for all the help I received here. And I hope by doing a follow up this can help someone else in the future.
