On the digital fuel read out.. the one that shows liters per 100km (or mpg) .. Is that just reading off the ECU map (what it should be getting) or is it calculating injector pulses and VSS (vehicle speed pulses) what its actually getting ?
Reason: If I do modifications that I believe will get me better mpg, will the dash read out give me 'actual' fuel used or what the ECU map 'thinks' or is 'programed' to show me ?

Not real sure, but I think its based on the pulse and rpms.

The mpg calculation is done using the sum of fuel injection time and the number of pulses from the speed sensor.

Thanks guys... out on the highway, by removing the engine fan it used the same amount of fuel at 120kmh as it used with a fan at 110kmh. So i can drive the car on the highway 10% faster for the same fuel used. The trip up to my mums is 325km on a highway. I checked km of fuel left before I left and checked it again as soon as I got home and to my astonishment there was an extra 45km of fuel there that wouldn't have been there if the fan was connected.
Around town it was really hard to tell but on the highway I'm getting 10-15% improvement..... Woo Hoo...

You can also try jacking up the car im back so the rear suspension sits higher....in that way you will always be going downhill. ..LOL

While that trick will work for you and me, fastegg is in Australia, so it's of course all uphill.

But seriously, fastegg, thanks for all this experimentation you've been doing. Everything seems well thought out and analyzed. Please keep us posted with this and any other mods you make.
