I think this thread could have been better titled and reported on... for example...

Thread Title: Check your engine for debris

Attention Lexus Owners, since some of these cars are/were kept by elderly members and they may have been stationary for extended periods, when purchasing or inspecting an LS400, be sure to check these areas (using bullet points) for mouse/rat debris as they could cause a fire and give additional warning signs about potentially damaged wires due to rodents damaging them.

Then you could cite some credible sources like the NHTSA or DOT websites, or the UK/EU equivalents.

This might even get pinned as its sound advice, that while seemingly common sense to check for, might go missed by some, just my 2 cents.

I think the metal door handles on a black LS left in the sun are pretty dangerous. I wouldn't call it a design flaw though.

If you are talking gen1 door handles they do have a design flaw, and that is why they crack and break. Lots of good work in these cars and then there are the small problem areas.

They crack and break after 20+ years. You left that out. Nothing lasts forever lol. Sometimes on an old car when something gives out its just old. If the car was 3 years old and the door handles had a habit of breaking that would be a different story.

I've been posting on and reading Lexus forums since the LS400 was new, I never recall stories about broken door handles.

My current '96 had a broken drivers door handle when I bought it. I've also see a couple here and there in junkyards over the years.

I'm sure you have, but remember your 96 is now 21 years old. My point was these door handles didn't break when the cars were 3 years old.
