Default Check Your Tranny Mount

Just replaced my tranny mount and all this weird vibration is gone. I thought it was my tires or suspension or motor mounts but it wasn't. At 250K a new transmission mount has my car driving and riding like a Lexus again.
You might want to check yours....

Known weakness... surprised you'd not changed it already...
Replaced some as early as 120k miles and possibly could have done it sooner.

Ok.. curious... that's a lot of cars listed, still owned by you?
I need a garage like yours if that's the case.

I had just gotten used to the vibration over time....

I have 2 driveways with one turn-a-round. 2 in garage, 2 in turn-a-round and 2 in lower driveway. I just own the LS430, LS400, GS300, and the 4Runner. The other 2 are our son's.

We do play shuffle a lot in the lower driveway. I just keep the 4Runner in the very bottom with the LS400 (daily driver) beside it. OF course, my wife's stays in Garage....r

How difficult was it to replace the tranny mount? Did you need to get it up on a lift or can it be done in the driveway? My car is a 98 LS400

thanks

tranny mount was easy, a LOT easier than the motor mounts. I did it in my driveway. I own a 98 as well

Hmmm I own a 99 LS at 167k. I've had it for 3.5 years, starting at 118k.
I have never noticed a vibration, especially one such that could be a tranny mount. I keep hearing how common it is for them to be worn though. Am I jaded to harshness after daily driving a modded s13 for so many years previous?
Just thinking out loud.. I have added this to my near future maintenance running list. Thanks

I'm sure glad they knew how to make a good transmission mount in 90, mines still in good shape.

fairly easy and a driveway job if you have two jackstands, a decent jack, and a piece of wood. I use the wood to isolate the jack while it's holding the transmission from the tranny oil pan.
a few bolts and the mount is off!

my mount at ~132k, completely separated!

Wow, what is that jack stand pushing on? I'd like a picture of what got smashed.

I've done it the same way with a piece of wood under the tranny pan. No damage as it does not take a lot of pressure to lift up the amount you need.
Great pics and very typical of the failure mode of the 3 tranny mounts I've replaced. Always improved the idle and removed the vibration.

jackstand is on the jacking point (on both sides). I suppose it does look smashed but it's just the body line giving that illusion.

my jack is directly under the tranny oil pan with a piece of wood to better distribute the load.
