98 ls400 152K for $2500?

Hello,is this a fair deal or not.

98 LS400 with 152K and no service records. Clean Carfax with 3 owners. Car in decent condition.

Toyota dealer said they would do the water pump/timing belt for 750. I am pretty sure it has been done yet or can't tell that it has.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thank you

98 ls400

Forgot to add that the price was $2500.

You don't know for sure till you look at it. I think I saw the same ad too. In Auburn? And with that price and what it looked like it looks like an okay deal. Just check it out good for any possible body damage that was fixed. And make sure everything works, anything that doesn't should get some off the price. And that is a great price for the timing belt at a dealer, way better than any independent.

Thanks, That was the one.

Got it for 2300, No problems on the way home from Tacoma to Portland. Needs a new grill because chrome is coming peeling off. Could use some tires. Non wrecked all panels matching vin.

Pretty happy with it.

dicer 10-23-16 06:51 PM

So your Portland not Wa? That's a good deal I've seen lots of 1990's and that era that are junk for about the same as what you got that for.

Actually Vancouver WA, but many people confuse that for B.C........They want plenty for the replacement front grills on Ebay. Have to clean the floor mats, had a good stain on passenger side. Get the timing belt/water pump replaced. Clean the leather seats, driver seat has a small 1 inch tear where your left kidney would be. Tires have maybe 5/32nds on them.

So definitely not the steal of the century. But as I clean it up it probably won't depreciate that much more since I won't drive it everyday. Just kind of a something to keep me busy that I can get some satisfaction out of . Lot of car for the money I feel.

Needs washer fluid and there is a little red light next to the message that says I need washer fluid.

i looked at the craigslist ad. I think 2300 is a steal. Obviously it will need a few things here and there but that color is gorgeous! From what it can tell your grill has "chrome" added to it in the form of plastic strips. thats not oem.

Great buy! Lets see some pics soon!

The cars in that area Tacoma/Portland seem to stay in really good shape paintwise and leatherwise.

I saw another one for sale, although not a 98+ but a 97 w/ low miles that looked to be a good deal also at 2500

That is the one I was talking about. And some of the cars here are an okay deal and some not. I've seen lots of good deals on the 98's to 2000's, almost thinking of jumping on one some day, then I can really get into can. And all those fun things.

Fro98686 10-24-16 06:34 PM

Yeah, decent deal not the greatest.. Has a front wheel bearing going out and I have to figure out how to patch a 1 inch tear on the side bolster section of driver seat.

Goes into Toyota for water pump and timing belt on Thursday.

dicer 10-24-16 08:13 PM

It looked like the ad was still up and the price was higher????

GH5T 10-24-16 09:35 PM

Looks just like my car.

Banshee365 10-24-16 09:40 PM

Setup an account on the Lexus Drivers and input your VIN. It will show any service done at a dealer. It's very interesting and helpful info.

Aron9000 10-24-16 10:13 PM

^ I'd say it was a great deal. Around here used cars in that price range are in very high demand. Almost everything is neglected, wrecked junk at that price. I assume this is a Washington state car its whole life, so the underbody is super clean with no rust at all, correct??

Fro98686 10-25-16 07:23 AM

I think the seller has just forgotten to remove the ad. He can't sell it again without a title and a car.

I can't wait to start driving it but I won't until the timing belt gets changed. It would be just my luck that it breaks with me driving it right before I get it in to be fixed,

Fro98686 10-25-16 07:26 AM

The Carfax said the car started in California and then moved to Washington. I didn't check the underside.

Good idea on the Lexus website to set up the car to see service history, Who knows, maybe the timing belt was done. Per Carfax though, it hadn't.

Thanks.

Hello again, what is more likely to cause a clunk when going over harsh spots in road? A worn strut or bad bushing in a strut rod.

Meanwhile $2700 later.....new timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, power steering pump, driver side lower ball joint, thermostat and air filter, front wheel bearing and new hub.

Also pulled a shallow fender dent with a harbor freight 4.5" suction cup and and cleaned a bunch of gray latex pain from rocker panels with laquer thinner.

taiman 11-07-16 11:43 PM

Im about to purchase a new LS 400 soon as well. Im really trying prepare as it will be my first car. Nice Purchase though and may Ia sked how much you paid for the driver side lower ball joint?
Also what service had been done on the car via the Lexus Site?
