Default Professionally Replacing 98 LS Navigation - Possible?

As much as I hate aftermarket electronics in my cars, the fact is my pristine 98 LS has the factory Navigation system which is not only very outdated in 2016 but also controls all the trip computer displays and most importantly the AC controls!

While a secondary goal is to get a better sound/navigation system with android/iphone/aux integration, my primary concern is a fear that my Nav screen will simply fail after 18 years and leaving me no ability to use the climate controls.

So with the caveat that i know it will not be cheap, has anyone had a professional auto sound shop do the swap? I know their are lots of gotchas like the fact that new non NAV vents and manual climate controls would need to be sourced but any feedback or experiences would be appreciated.

I have a read a few thread of DIY projects and while I am not afraid to turn a wrench under the hood, I have no desire to mess with the electronics!

The level of integration would be pretty challenging to duplicate outside of a Toyota designed unit. I'm not familiar wit the options on the 98+. From a quick look, you might be able to source the climate control unit from a non-nav option LS400 and see if there are connectors for it. Then you'll do the audio delete with an aftermarket unit.

This thread lists some options that were available:

Toyota IME has the harness set-up for various plug in options but to what extent IDK. This would require some experimenting. Maybe Yamae might have additional insights.

standard climate control will plug right in and bolt right up. You then need a dash kit for whatever stereo you choose. Pretty straight forward.

And make sure you use a wiring adapter as well, you do not want to cut the wires and splice.

Wow really? That is great news. I was almost certain it would be super involved. I will start planning this out, thanks!
