Default Update on the '92

Well it has been a while since I've posted so I thought I'd check in. My son has he learners permit and has been racking up the miles on the car. 3000 so far so it is time for another oil change and drain/refill of the trans fluid. He has driven it to Birmingham AL, Chattanooga TN and Savannah GA for sowo and it has performed flawless getting 24mpg. It has done several trips around town and to caffeine and octane events as well. I think the last time I checked in we did front outer tie rod ends and a battery. And you know after that new battery the car really has been a different car. Smooth to start and smooth running and driving. It may be in my head. It was time for its last emissions a few weeks ago and it passed with flying colors. That may be due to the fact the CEL light came on and it was a lean condition. Two new front O2's and no light since. The inspector said the car was running cleaner than most cars he has seen. I was able to get a used cluster with a busted speedo and dismantled it to repair the one we have. The tach is still off but that is not important. All that is important is now the odometer works and the fuel gauge works as well. I just ordered lower ball joints due to the drivers side one failing. It has new upper control arms already from the previous owner. My son enjoys the car and I got him to back off from modifying it as I got him a '76 Toyota Celica to modify. That car should be fun to do as a autocross/drifter. Anyway, here it is tamed down with the OZ 16's and new 225/55/16 tires that we replaced the 18in Avid 50's with. Much better riding car now.

It really looks nice, are there many bad spots on the paint? How is the interior? Keep all the original stuff like wheels etc.

Passenger side has some blemishes due to some clear lifting and the previous owner trying to "blend" in some paint. Nothing devistating. Interior is in great shape, no rips, holes or anything. We put the factory radio back in and hooked it all up. Everything works but the climate control display is washed out like all of them. Going to address that but since it is so dang hot right now the display is clear until the a/c cools off the inside of the car. I don't have the original springs or wheels but those wheels are a dime a dozen around here. If it came to it I could have a set fast and cheap.

It may look cool to some folks, but if it wasn't painted that way from the factory and the car was in super top shape like some posted on the craigslist thread. Every dime you spent on the car would be like flushing it down the toilet, because a non factory paint code repaint, will destine it to a junk yard in the future.

Very nice, regarding the update. I'm glad your son is enjoying the car, and I'm happy to hear that you've both been able to continue to improve it.

Boy, I wish it were like that around here. I would love to get another set, rather than refurbishing the wheels and the spare.
