Default Very Strange Issue: Headlight Washer

Hi!

2000 LS400 @ 195,000 km.
Everything well maintained.

Driving down the highway and my headlight (headlamp) washer starts spraying non-stop...

I pull over and turn off engine and top up the fluid.

Turn engine to on (not started) and it starts spraying again. Not the windshield washer, just the headlight washer.

And I notice that it is spraying a lot more than normal...

I unplug the button for the headlight washer, turn engine to on, same thing. It's not the button.
I unplug the fuse for the washer (#22 or #23 I think...can't remember now)....same issue.
I unplug the fuse for the wipers (#2 or #2 I think...can't remember now )....same issue.

I call Lexus Richmond Hill: They have never head of it, but recommended I turn off the lights.
I turn off the lights, fuses out, button disconnected....same issue.

Leaving the fuses out, I reconnect the button, and have CAA (AAA in the US) tow me to my fav. mechanic.

When the car arrives, the issue is gone....great?

No matter what we try, the issue is not coming back.

We notice a headlamp bulb is out (hard to see and find, I think it was the DRL on the driver's side).

Replaced the bulb...issue is still gone...was it bulb related? Could it be?

Mechanic says either:

- Something was blocking the tubes and the system tried to clear it out and it is now clear.
or
- The motor is shorting and it's intermittent.
or
- The bulb caused an issue -but unlikely.
or
- There is an issue with the body control unit (or ecu) and it's intermittent.
or
- The issue is related to any of the above and pulling the fuses long enough reset that portion of it....but unlikely.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you!

You need to go to the Toyota site and look at the manuals.

In many cars the washer fluid keeps the motor cool, and if it runs dry, it can overheat and burn out.

So far the issue hasn't come back

I had those washers on previous cars. Living in Florida, all they were good for was an unintentional soapy bath fir the front of the cat. For once I'm glad I couldn't have a feature! Lol

sounds like a short or intermittent pump since the pump is usually pretty low to the pavement and susceptible to debris and corrosion.
