This LS has 190,000 miles. It was a one owner and came with a 3 inch stack of Lexus dealer maintenance records. It was tuned up not that long ago, has a new air filter, I cleaned the TB (though it was pretty clean to begin with).

It had some bad caps and would only run well maybe 5% of the time, but when it did, it seemed faster than this. (I put new caps on the ECU, per the master thread)


The temp gauge is not reading correctly, smack the dash and it will land somewhere else.

Ignore that tink sound, my water bottle rolled into something.

Those shifts seem to delayed.

To answer your question, that is just about right for the LS 400's acceleration.

Keep in mind, the car weighs somewhere around 3759 lbs, depending on optional equipment, and produces 250 hp. It has been previously recorded with a 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds, which was very good back in 1990 and still is for a car this heavy, with a V8, and with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Ah, now for comparison, here is a video from 2 months prior when I bought the car. Air was cooler but the filter was dirty. I fixed the dash and gas gauge already.

I've overlapped them, much quicker between 20-70 in the 2nd video.


I'm going to change that temp sensor that supposedly can hurt performance for various reasons.

YES!

Below is a video from my ride home after the sensor replacement today. Also, I flushed the coolant since someone did a drain refill with green the last time. I drained, refilled, ran it... 4 times to get the system totally clear of old mixed fluid. The two block drains are easy to get with a long extension. I also did a transmission drain refill with MaxLife, but this transmission has followed the tight Lexus schedule it's whole life. The old fluid looked good. 2 quarts.

Now, I also did the JBrady mod during the week. But the car was still a total dog. I could hear the intake better it seemed to me that when I got to 4000 rpms the car started to lose power. If this car had some secondary intake runner valves I would swear they were stuck closed.

And a video of how it runs now. I let it idle for 15 minutes before leaving to go home to see if the coolant level dropped. The engine was plenty warm, heat soaked even a bit perhaps.
