1998 LS400: Transmission not engaging in drive?
I let my 1998 LS400 warm up for a couple of minutes today.
I got in the car, put it in reverse and backed up about 20 feet. I then came to a complete stop, and placed it into drive. To my surprise the car wouldn't budge, it was like it was in neutral, but it sounded different. Thought I had left my parking brake on.
I turned the car off, placed into park, and applied the parking brake.
I checked the transmission fluid, and it looks great, was changed under 10,000 miles ago. Level is fine.
I started it back on, put it into gear, and it was like nothing ever happened.
Car currently has 188,000 miles and counting.
Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it just a random glitch? I've never had it happen before, and the transmission has given me zero issues. Of interest, my battery is getting weak, and I'm planning on replacing it soon.
Attached is a Dropbox video documenting the issue.
Thanks!

Update:
Ended up going out to the car tonight.
Scanned for DTCs, and found absolutely none. Here's the report.
"ECU reports no current faults
Pending Fault Log

ECU reports no historic faults
Other discovered fault codes
(possibly pending, current or manufacturer specific)"

It's good that there is no tranny code but that doesn't mean you're home free. Many internal trans failures will not throw a code. You can try checking the trans shift linkage and position selector switch to see if they're within specs.

try unplugging the battery for 15 min and see if anything changes. Worth a try, right?
