Default LONG TIME lurker, first time poster. Got hit n run on my 90 'LS400 :(

Soooooo...I bought my 1990 Lexus LS400 about 1 year ago. I got it off a family friend who was clothes with a professional golfer. The car only has 90,000 miles on it and was in beautiful condition. I'm just your typical mid-twenties year old kid but I absolutely love the car and treat it like my own son. Tonight I walk out to my car which was parked on the side street and lo and behold I got sideswiped and my mirror is dangling off. My instant reaction was to rip the mirror off I don't know why I did that butt the mirror would not come of, thank god. My big question is what should I do to fix the situation should I replace the glass? Is it going to cost an arm and a leg if I go to a dealer? And what exact part number should I look up if I buy it myself.

Wow. Your car also looks a lot like mine - Same color with the gold pinstriping.

Sorry that this happened to you. It's truly a shame, and it's the biggest reason why I always close my mirror when I park on a side street. People are careless.

Luckily, the damage has only been done to the mirror, so you can purchase another online and replace it. If it's not in the same color, it can be painted, but it would be preferable to find one that's matching.

Never try to rip it off. It looks like you will need the mirror assembly and glass, which are usually together. I would stay away from dealers, who will charge you an arm and a leg. There are plenty of used parts available.

There is a good amount of parts available on Ebay. I found this listing, which seems to be perfect. Double check to make sure that it's what you need. Good luck!

EDIT: I'm assuming your car's color is 6K4, Black Jade Pearl, because that's what it looks like to me. Check the inspection sticker on the driver's side pillar of your car, seen when you open the driver's door. The paint code should be there. If it's not 6K4, look it up with this list as a reference.

that really sucks. lucky these cars are old enough to find parts for in the junkyard. that's what id do. and try not to park it on the curb unless you absolutely have to. if worst comes to worst park in in the grass infront of your house!

welcome and sorry to hear about your misfortune, but thankfully it's a relatively easy fix. simply source a complete mirror assembly from a parts dismantler, junk yard, or online and replace. do not try and get the mirror itself, just purchase the entire assembly for an easier time swapping. the ebay link above sounds like a winner!

Doesn't that suck? Same thing happend to my wife and son a few weeks ago. Stupid lady bumped the back of his 92 LS400 and as they pulled off to the side she sped around them and took off. All it did was crack the paint on the bumper but talk about rude. Probably had suspended/no license or no insurance. Pretty typical in Atlanta.

Looks like you got off easy with just a mirror replacement. I agree, shop around and I'm sure you'll find a exact match.
