Not a fan of Goodyear tires really but i liked their Assursncr triple tread tire on my IS300 lasted me a long time snd the IS has more aggresive factory suspension setting than your regular car. Have General Altimax r43's on my Rav4 and have held up really well driving over a lot of scoria and racking up over 30k miles in about a year and 4 months still have tread. And the scoria just demolishes tires. Had some kumho ecstasy's I liked and wasnt a huge fan of Continetals Contitrac I think it was despite what most people raved about them. Had those on a GS400 and werent very sticky. Had the Kumhos on a 2002 Q45. Hope that helps.

the real problem is that idiots don't realize the left lane is for passing and they should get out of it. if you watch autobahn footage, you NEVER see someone pass on the right, that's where danger can occur. as long as a few basic rules can actually be followed by everyone, there really wouldn't be more danger. more fatal crashes probably but not necessarily more.
Have you ever been to Germany? The Autobahn is not a bunch of people screaming along at 140 MPH like Americans think it is. Not all of it is limit free, and for the most part people drive at speeds similar to what we have here.

Their roads are much better than here too, and in general people take driving much more seriously.

I've seen pictures of you driving down roads with stoplights at these speeds, that is not the Autobahn. This isn't Germany, our roads aren't designed for those sorts of speeds.

my perceptions of the autobahn are accurate. i also know that there is no singular autobahn, rather germany's highway network is collectively referred to as the autobahns. and you didn't even mention the traffic that's often on it preventing high speeds from being reached in the first place. i was mainly using it to illustrate that people on it know how to follow the rules which facilitates safe high speed travel. even though much of the autobahn is just a 2 lane road, nobody passes on the right and everyone promptly gets back to the right once they've passed.

there are also plenty of straight, deserted highways in big, wide open america that could easily support such speeds. people do it all the time, in florida (which i have been to) they go everywhere at like 100 lol... the type of car and attention to maintenance on it also has a major effect on this, people in this country don't care and let their cars go to crap, while germans tend to maintain them better as well. also that video was just a one time thing and i can guarantee that nothing would've happened. i'm told the people in that took extensive measures...

always had good experiences with michelins though be prepared to pay a premium. they are quiet, and light thus giving great gas mileage to boot, plus they last and last and last. most are in the upper 500 treadwear range hence the long range. i get mine at costco, great warranty, nitrogen filled, free rotations, the works...

I ran across a deal a year ago, 4 new Goodyear Eagle RS-A for 150$.. they were 235/55/17 and fit my 2001 430 wheels and I put them on and they have surprised me, quiet, very good traction, and looks like good mileage.. we dont travel anymore, only about 5-7000 per year... but we have many toll roads, 80 mph around.. so at this point, I am satisfied and pleased..

I just put a set of these on my LS400 and am very pleased. Drove about 400 miles yesterday and these tires are very smooth and very quiet. I replaced a set of Kumho Ecstas and it's a huge improvement. Eliminated a shaking in the steering wheel and the road noise I was hearing.

Thanks for the recommendation!

a good tire is a balance of wear and performance plus budget. a good performing tire (in dry summer conditions for example) will have low tread wear and will not last as long as a mediocre performing tire with a high tread wear number. higher tread wear does not necessarily mean better. that just means the rubber is of a harder compound, which also equates to louder road noise as it wears. also consider the use of the tires, highway or city, and ambient conditions, if used in colder climates or warmer. we in cali can run summer tires year round.
