Default How to fix this Bottom Part of Lexus LS 400- under cover

Hey Guys,

I have this Lexus LS 400 that looks in good condition besides this bottom part that gets stuck on things when I park too close to the curb.

I have been trying to put a book underneath to push this plastic part back up, but it hasn't been working.

Does anyone here have any permanent solutions to push this plastic part up so it looks cosmetically better? (I can't screw this part back on as the original screw was yanked out and it has molded the metal where the screw goes in so any new screw won't fit anymore unfortunately... )

What is that, the engine undercover?

Yes it is the front engine undercover, originally it doesn't look like this, there was a screw that attaches this plastic cover over the engine underneath, however the screw is gone and the metal that holds together the screw is bent to the degree that you can't put in another screw... I have not figured another method to make it not look like this

Well, I think the undercover is attached to the bumper cover with a bunch of nylon unuts that clip onto the bumper cover and accept the screws. Replacements are easily obtained. 90179-05060 I think is the part. Fleabay has all kinds.

I have tried using a replacement nut, however it won't fit anymore as the hole that takes the replacement nut is too loose

I'm assuming there's a hole torn in the undercover. You can either glue a patch over the hole or buy another undercover.

There are more cars driving around with out them that have them. Just take it off and figure out what you want to do.

Originally the covers are screwed to the bottom edge of the front bumper. My cover had worn out screw holes and kept coming loose. I ended up tucking the under cover above the bottom lip on the bumper and using captive nuts (clip them to the cover) and run the screw up through the bumper holes and through the under cover. This way, wind/rain/snow wont rip it down all the time.

I think a T-nut is probably the best idea, what do you guys think?
