He was a mechanic. This was his client's car. He claimed that the steering failed. He also had a tablet running diagnostic at the time. so it could be distraction or mechanical. The car owner's lawyer contacted me a few days ago. The only reason I picked up my phone to record was because he was driving crazy.

This is a good reason why I never have anyone work on my cars. If he was planning on monitoring a scan tool he should have had a helper. Unless it was a part failure that can happen. Though likely not if he was driving for miles like a drunk.

The lawyer said the car's owner tried to get the repair shop to pay for the damages but they claimed the mechanic was a contractor therefore not covered by the repair shop's insurance. (I know, it makes no sense). Lawyer told me that the mechanic had this lady's car for 8 days and had put 800 miles on it. By the way, this was about 6:30 PM and 30 minutes from the repair shop and he was going the opposite direction from the shop.
