Motor Mounts
My 1992 with 172k just had both engine mounts changed as well as the transmission mounts.
The mechanic told me that both engine mounts had actually come apart (the engine was literally moving with acceleration), and the transmission mount was split, such that the transmission was sinking by two inches!!
It was about 1.5 hours to change each engine mount (my mechanic had never changed them), so it was a learning experience.
The car feels much tighter particular under hard acceleration/braking and the transmission is shifting much more slickly. Plus, that big jolt you got when moving from P to D has reduced significantly.
If you have a high mileage LS, replacing the engine mounts and transmission mount will help to restore that legendary smoothness..

My Lexus dealer gave me a quote of CAD 950 (USD 700) for replacing engine & tranny mounts. The quote includes CAD 570 (USD 420) parts and CAD 260 (USD 195) labour, and taxes.
The engine mounts cost more (CAD 440, USD 325 for parts) because they're updated parts (better than the original, according to the dealer). Each mount includes 2 pieces: a metal bracket and the mount insulator. I don't know if I can use the original bracket to save some money.

TVD, buy your parts from an online vendor and save big $$. I used www.trademotion.com for my 95 ls 400 transmission mount. Total fee, including installation at the local gas station around the corner, $70. Next is the motor mounts and front end bushings. Don't mess with the dealer unless you MUST. If it's a part that every car has, and is one that every car needs replacing at some point, then why pay extra when someone else who has also done it and knows how will charge you less? Just my opinion.

Hmmm, strange.... Here is the exact cut / paste from the website I used. I think trademotion might be the web server. Anyway, cut and paste the following. You should end up on a parts locator page and can go from there.

Iron Toad seems to have best price on the engine & tranny mounts: $88 and $51 each
Part numbers are 12361 (engine mount insulator) and 12371 (tranny mount). The new engine mount also includes parts 12381 and 12391 which are not listed at iron toad. These are some kind of cover that presumably protect the insulator.

It's www.irontoad.com
Problem with this site is that the list of parts is very limited. If you can't find the part you want you have to mail them for a quote.
