Default Limp needle fix (impact)

I know there's threads on here about gummed up needles, and dimly lit needles, and all that, but I had a different problem and couldn't find a thread on a fix for it, so I'm making this one.

I have an 89 with about 200K miles on it. Still runs like a champ.

I was driving down the highway a couple of weeks ago in an area I'm not familiar with and I took a steep exit going too fast and I ended up hitting a broken curb on the side of the highway at about 60 mph. The only damage was my tachometer and speedometer went completely limp. I got under the next day to see if I broke any sensors or anything, but everything looked great. After doing some research on here and other sites I determined it would be one of two things... either a tranny speed sensor or the actual cluster. Well I replaced the #1 speed sensor and that didn't do anything.

Sunday I took out my whole cluster (Tutorial here), I took off the cover for the front, and starting with the tach needle, I rotated the needle clockwise until redline. You hear clicks and pops, but that's okay. Then I rotated the needle counter-clockwise until it was sitting directly on 0. Repeated for the speedometer, and plugged it back in and now they work perfectly again.
