Smile Chasing LED tail lights 1995-1997 Planning

Ever since I first watched the video of Elvis Skender's lights on his car I've been dreaming of doing it myself one day. I turn 18 in two days so I will have some money to spend and want to start on the project. I plan on buying some spare taillights for a 95 ucf20 like my car and hacking those up instead of the ones on my car, duhh I've also put some research into the components of the LED's a common unit to use is the Arduino unit which you program to control the lights to run code you write to make them flash in certain patterns or sequences. I can't say for sure how many LED's that will be used as I haven't been able to look at the dimensions of the tail light housings. I have somewhat access to talking to Elvis Skender on facebook (without being a stalker) and asking him a little about his setup but as I don't believe he created them personally I don't want to rely to heavily on his input. The most challenging thing right now is purchasing all of the components I will need and a lot of confusion on the wiring schematics. If you are knowledgeable in the subject of these type of circuits please please feel free to comment as I am still learning and am looking to learn more every day. Even if I'm not able to get the full chasing look I'm going for I would at least like to make a more modern look of the LED's. Thank you guys if you've read this far. Also I don't think I've formally introduced myself, I am Grayson I live in Georgia and yeah

EDIT: I realize after I posted this how misleading the title could be and that I cannot change it. I apologize if you see this in hopes of a finished product

glad you want to tackle such a huge project at such as young age. it will take lots of learning and programming to get there, depending on how intricate you want to go. elvis' setup is pretty mild compared to others out there.

here is a prime example of what you should expect! happy reading.

btw, i know that elvis had his tails built by his connection in japan so he might not now a lot about the assembly and what it takes to do something like this (or maybe he does).

I like the ideal and watching closely. I want LED tails but can't justify the the cost to buy them.
