I am looking at a 93 with 131000 miles on it. It appears to be in excellent condition inside and out. I have full service records from inception until September 2013. Serviced at only one dealer. Apparently it's only been driven 14k miles in the past 2 years and has been going to an independent shop for oil changes. The timing belt was done at 82k in 2005! Numerous odds and ends have been replaced over the years: Valve adjustment at 117k, both CVs, PS pump and reservoir, motor mounts, transmission mounts, oil pan gasket, egr valve, dash instruments, coolant tank, hood struts, etc etc.

Aside from probably needing a new timing belt due to age, I don't see much that will need to be touched in the near future (no air suspension either). This will be my first LS and my DD in about 8-9 months. The listing price is $4950... but judging from comps on this forum, 3500-4k seems fair. Am I out of line here? For $5k I think I should be looking at a '95 or newer.

If the body and original paint is perfect and the interior is too, maybe. Others will say for about the same price you get more car going newer. It depends on what you want. Any messed up stuff cosmetic wise should be money off.

3-4k seems right, If it was miiint maybe more, but.. Start really low and work your way up to land in a window comfortable to you. If not walk away, sit in your car on the phone for a minute, and see if they stop you from leaving.

For 5k, personally I would pass and look for a 95-97 Ls400 instead. Idk about your area but here in Dallas area I can get 98-99 models for 5k.

When I bought my 93 about 4 years ago it had 96K on it, was owned by an elderly lady who always took it to the shop and had all the records on it it. Was excellent both outside and in and only paid $3600... I'd say that's a wee bit high. Personally, I'd hold out for the 98-2000 model years. Best of the best.
I just paid $3200 for a 98 model what was very clean in and out... OK, so I'm up to $1500 in bringing the maintenance up to my standards, but it was a clean car with everything working on it.

$5k is 95-97 territory already so i would not pay more than $4 for a pristine early model.

Thanks all. I took a look at the car last night. It was not to my liking. Way too many cosmetic defects, paint chips, dents, bumper rash, etc. Seemed solid mechanically though other than the slight leak from the front-right cv boot. Engine bay and undercarriage are very clean. Interior is clean. Rear seat leather was a bit hard.

After looking at the 98-00, I think I am going to hold out as well.
