1995 LS400 Key cutting

I bought a '95 LS400 about a year ago and my wife and I are loving it. Recently, we lost our spare key are decided to get a few more made. This is the first car we have owned that has an inside cut, and since it doesn't look like a "normal" key, we figured we would have to get our spares cut at a Lexus dealership. The only problem with this is that the nearest dealership is 5 hours away. It's a standard Lexus key--no buttons or fancy-schmancy gadgetry. Would I be able to get spare keys made at the local locksmith? Do I need to provide the blanks since it's more of a specific key-type?

Sorry if these are really basic questions; we are young college students without too much car experience. I tried asking at the local mechanic when I took the car in for a tune-up the other day, but the gal I talked to didn't seem to know either.

Thanks in advance for any help!

any automotive locksmith should be able to handle cutting an inside-cut key. many lexus models that followed also have this type of key so it's not uncommon.

some dealerships do not like cutting non-OEM keys as it ruins their cutting bits (or so they say), so you are forced to buy an OEM key and get it cut (which is $75-100). they can use their database to find your VIN number and have the key cut without having the master key to model. just call them and see if they can do this and mail the key to you!

luckily you don't have a 97 where there is an anti theft chip inside the key which will need to be paired with the ignition in order to start the car.
