Default Shortened spindles

Ok who here has had their spindles shortened ( by cutting and re welding)? I'm looking at doing mine ASAP, I'd just like a little more info as far as the route you went. I'm effectively going to create drop spindles with 30mm RCA's. So, I'm assuming I'd have to remove 30mm of material from the spindles as well. Has anyone done 30mm RCA's and a 40mm reduction?

might not get a lot of info here since the majority do not do demon camber on their cars. you should check VIP forums for this kind of info.

in my mind, i would not remove too much as to ruin wheel clearance but of course you would have to run low offset wheels (or spacers) to clear.

here is a sample of a modded LS knuckle:

It's next to impossible to find any certified welder willing to do this for a street car due to the issues with welding cast steel.

it's possible but you need to do it in a couple of steps and then brace the hell out of it. As has been said, there ae a couple of places that do it.

Besides going with an Onikyan setup, the main reason to do it would be to regain the UCA angles at extreme static drops.

Places that do it and places that will stand behind the work when you drive the car on the street are two very different things in my experience.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. My purpose for the modification is to eliminate bump steer and also prevent the control arm from kissing the shock tower. I am not a fan of camber at all, and all my suspension mods will reflect that. I'm building a daily driven/show car, (with a family of five) I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy aftermarket. Spindles breaking in half is not an option for me while doing 70 on the freeway. I'm not willing to gamble with someone attempting to weld cast steel without proof of reliability/durability.

makes sense esp when you add the RCAs. but then you will run into other problems like the tire striking the upper seam, or the oil pan/subframe hitting the ground...low life problems.

thats good to know. I'll probably send my spindles to them if I get to this point of needing more low.
