So my friends 98 LS doesn't shift out of first gear and is making a humming noise has anybody encounter this what was the culprit and the solution ? I would like to do it myself to see if the problem can be fixed without a big bill to the dealer or repair shop any help or input is very appreciated

Sounds like a toasted solenoid though could be far worse.

No cel on am hoping it's the shift solenoid
