brakes keep popping in slow turns!!!!!!!!!
I keep getting a clunking noise from my front brakes on my 93 ls400. It occurs during braking while turning, like when pulling into a parking spot or into a driveway. I read on this site that the caliper pins were corroding and prohibiting the pads from sliding, and that the corrosion was caused by worn rubber parts on the caliper no longer sealing properly. I took it to the shop with new caliper pins in hand and also gave them all of the necessary rubber to rebuild each caliper. The mechanic confirmed that this was the problem but said the rubber did not need to be replaced, that it had nothing to do with the cali[per pins corroding. He thoroughly cleaned the slides with a wire brush and installed and lubed the new pins and replced the pads and rotors, and the noise was gone. This was about two months ago. Now the popping/clunking is faintly returning and it is only going to get worse. I can't see having to take the car in every two months "to get the caliper pins lubed" just to keep the noise away. Does anyone know how to correctly fix this annoying problem PERMANENTLY???????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the first question is what type of lube did he use ?
They sell a special type , although I can't think of the name right
now, but I had once had a mechanic use general grease,
which migrates, not good at all.
Other than that , I did my brakes on my own 2 years ago, and they
are still non-squeaking and definitively no popping noise.
They usually ask if you want it when you get new brake pads.

Have you had this problem before on your car? If so, why is it the dealer or anybody else for that reason cannot diagnose what the culprit is?
Can you tell what exactly goes wrong with the caliper to cause such a loud noise and why regreasing the caliper pins only temporarily fixes the problem? Thanks.

Check all the front suspension bushings: strut rod, lower and upper arms and ball joints.... These all tie in and support each other. If worn, there will be slight play and when they reach their limit of travel, it will make noise when encountering pavement variations or while braking. On our '97, the strut rod arm bushings are worn and I get a clunk each time I pull into the driveway and or when I encounter a sharp road variation. (pot hole)
The caliper pins will crud up but in my case it was symptomatic of steering feedback. A simple clean/polish and application of synthetic brake caliper grease cured that.

I took my car into Lexus and , that is how I know , my 94 does it , only when in reverse and only once upon each startup. I will do something about it when I have brakework done in the future.
