Question Smell like gas in exhaust

Hi guys,

Maybe a gas mixture problem. I smell gas, especially in the morning when I start the car.
Is it leading to bad MPG. Last week I have a trip from Orange County to Sacramento and the car consume almost a full gas tank (23 gallons I believe) for 410 miles.

Any recommend for a mechanic locally here for checking and tuning up my engine?

Thanks.

I think that's about right. How many miles do you normally get from a full tank or should I ask how many miles do you expect to get?

since OP hasn't given us the year of his honda civic we have no idea what his expected mileage should be.

21-22gal for 410 mi on hwy isn't exactly horrible for these cars (~18-20mpg), esp older 1st gen cars in need of a tune-up.

It's a 1995 LS400. Also I don't feel like the car is powerful enough with a 4.0L V8. Maybe the car is quite old and I'm expecting to much .
Thank you all.

Rich exhaust is normal at first start and cold. If it does it after its up to operating temperature then there is a problem.

No power and slow acceleration? Have you checked the capacitors in your ECU? If not, it may be time. With no codes and uncharacteristic behavior it may be time to get those replaced.

lolmore likely to simply be in need of a basic ignition tune-up than immediately jumpingto the ECU as a possible issue.

I concur. This does not sound like ECU caps.

OC to sac in one tank is awesome for a 95! i did the same trip averaging 25mpg.

yes you are expecting too much on our v8s haha. these cars are HEAVY so it will not accelerate as fast as you are probably expecting. the motor is ample for the size of the car, and if you hold the revs the car boogies IMO.

what's your mileage? a basic tuneup is all that you might need as stated by PD.
