Default Using Toyota for timing belt service?

Just wanted to know people's opinions on how wise that would be, the closest Lexus dealership is pretty far away so for convenience I thought about just going to Toyota dealership. I have my parts already.
'99 LS400. I've heard this is a pretty tough job so I just didn't want it in the end costing me more because the mechanic ran into problems, or worse. If it were easy I would go to the my regular $60/hour mechanic. Who is good.

Thanks for any replies.

Toyota dealer is fine. It's a Toyota engine after all. I would not worry.

Toyota Dealers do Landcruisers, Tundras, and Sequoias by the zillions, which are very similar to our LS400s as far as the belts go. They are actually a good choice to do them

Thanks for the replies...
Yoshiman that is a great point, the Toyota mechanic probably gets a lot more practice with all the 4runners Tundra's etc,

My dad used them on his LS430 and it was much cheaper. I don't see a problem with it. And I need to so my 4runner...getting up on 186k already.... where does the time go?

I was actually surprised when I got a quote from Toyota and Lexus to the timing belt service and Toyota was more expensive than Lexus and Lexus gives you a complimentary loaner vehicle vs. Toyota didn't. But if the Toyota dealer is a lot closer, just go for it. We drove 46 miles to the Lexus dealer vs 11 to the Toyota dealer

The 1UZ-FE engine is easy to work on, and requires no special instruction. If your mechanic has done timing belt jobs before, then I would trust him to work on the LS.

generally toyota mechanics are accustomed to v8s so this should be ok. it's really up to the service tech if they even want to tackle this job since warranty might not be applicable on the parts. labor should be.
