'01-03 ls430 diffs should work in a '98-00 LS400, the rear cover/mount may need to be swapped at most.

will not work on '95-97 cars.

what do you mean by swap rear cover/mount?
it has 2 mounts at the rear of car and basically the bushes are not there due to wear so looks have to drop subframe and get some bushes made or go the ls430 but will ls430 diff effect traction control or anythibg like that or are they the same.

never knew this! good info, but now am curious as to the difference between 95-97 and 98-00 rear ends. thought they were the same all along.

i suppose with the new transmission in the 98-00 cars the diff needs to run different ratios. any external differences?

You can buy OEM bushings from lexus, with the right tool tey can be pushed into the subframe without removing it from the car. The rear cover refers to the differential's rear cover, which in the LS is also a mounting point to the subframe. The supra mkiv and GS/SC rear covers are different, without the right mounting points.

'95-97 have different rear suframes. The suspension points are all the same but the differential mounts are quite different. The diff internals are the same ring gear size and hould be interchangeable, but the ratios are different. ('95-97 are 3.62:1 iirc, '98+ are 3.266:1).
