Question This is an easy one...

Was fixing to start working on cleaning the throttle body when I noticed this piece is cracked (circled) and figured that is probally not a good thing since it is past the air filter. Anybody know what this tube is called so I can get a replacement? I am assuming that one end is the air filter and the other is the throttle body.

thanks

What is it called? I would say its a intake connector tube. This tube is after the MAF and it will affect your car Air/Fuel mixer. Your car will run better if you replace it. Best thing is get a new one from Lexus or get after market. The size is 3.25" ID and its about 3-4" long. If you want a used one www.car-parts.com will have it for cheap.

I'm guessing that the "crack" is supposed to be there to allow the coupling to slide onto the throttle body easier. Notice that it is after the clamp, so no air or dirt should be able to get in there. I have a feeling that if you get a new one, the "crack" will come stock.

You can get it from the dealer, but the price could be about $80. You could order it from Parts Web Site for about $46. I just ordered by from the dealer and when I mentioned that I could get it for about $50 they told me that they will sell it to me at the wholesale price.
My also cracked at the same spot.

Well, I juste ordered it form the dealer. It was $48.33. But now you all have me interested in that crack. Can anyone else tell me if that is normal or not??

Default Cheap Fix

Well, if you want a cheap fix for that, go to Home Depot or any of your favorite hardware store. Go to plumbing department and ask for a 3" rubber hose connector. This shouldn't cost more than $6. And you even got the advantage of a smooth bore hose instead of an accordion-like bore that promotes turbulence. Bring your old hose and make sure that it matches very closely.

You can also go to NAPA and see if they have their straight radiator hose in 3 1/8". The exact hose size is actually 80mm, 3 1/8" is the closest but you can always use 3 1/4". If you decided to go to NAPA, they will only sell this thing in 3ft increment., so you will have extras. Let me know and I will buy a foot off of you

PS: that crack is probably caused by old age, the hose is 10+ years old and it has been exposed to pretty high underhood temperatures. C'mon, you cannot expect parts to last forever (especially filters ... hint, hint)

Whether it's supposed to be there or not I don't think it's harming anything due to the fact that the clamp is in place. Even enormous amounts of vacuum couldn't get air from that crack.

no, it's not supposed to have a crack there. Do yourself a favor and check your motor mounts too, if you haven't already. The way it happens is this:
motor mounts broken, engine moves around during driving. All flexible hoses/tubes get extra stretched and bent while engine moves around, eventually causing the tear.

glad you are getting it fixed. the longer you drive it like that, the worse it'll get: terrible acceleration, and an eventual "check engine" light.
