Default Is there any problem switching oil?

About to change the oil on the 99 LS400 I just got and wondering if there is any problem switching a car that has been run on Dino oil for 134K miles to Synthetic oil. Just want to make sure it wont cause any problems. Thanks for any responses.

Well. If you have an oil leak or a oil burning problem, expect it to accelerate a bit with full syn. Smoother, more efficient with less build up and it will have less restriction leaking where the dino oil did. But the LS400 should have always been on Synthetic, never on that Dino garbage. Most guys will say go to Toyota and get the 5w-30 Toyota oil - thats what Toyota says is the ONLY weight to run in a 99 LS400. You should have been using full syn from day one since you have VVT-i but thats in the past now.

there is no problem changing from conventional to synthetic. the car never came with syn from the factory, and can only benefit from the switch.

now going the other way, syn to conventional, is a controversial topic.

if you have time, read here about the basics of oil.

Engines don't care what's in them... Unless its turkey gravy or something.... then they do tend to care!

Ha ha! that made me laugh!

I guess I should clarify that every time I have a motor oil discussion, SOMEONE always says: "once you go to synthetic oil, you have to keep using it and cannot switch back to regular" And I have to ask where this wife's tale came from??

It's not like the engine is going to stand up and say "uhm, excuse me, this is not that fancy synthetic stuff you used last time, I'm going on strike"
