Default Repairing Gauge Cluster

Hi everyone. My speedometer, fuel gauge and temp gauge all decided to go crazy all at once. I have read a lot in the forum about some different options to send off and have them repaired. Could anyone give advice o fixing this? Also, can I drive the car without the gauge cluster? I can't be without my car for a week while the gauges get fixed. Thanks!

Well its going to take 5 days or more to get it fixed, this is my only car. I mean right now my speed doesn't work, so theres not much to look at on the cluster

my advice is to check your ECU for leaking capacitors.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...capacitor.html

one of the symptoms of ECU needing new capacitors is a wacky gauge cluster. it is also most common on first gen 90-94 models!

No, it isn't. the ECU Has literally no control on the cathode power in the gauges when they flicker) or the stepper motors (sticky needles and etc.).

ECU Capacitors are not some magical cure-all. they will not cause issues with the cluster.

OP- yes your car will run fine without your cluster, just make sure you figure out a way to stay at a safe speed when it's missing.

what i understood is that his cluster isn't reading properly. i know the flickering LEDs are a different issue altogether so i suppose "going crazy" could mean flickering LEDs .

from the ECU thread
● speedometer not working reliably
● speed (cruise) control not working
● tachometer not working sometimes
Jbthompson, what year is your car?

You can drive without the cluster but i have heard that you will have a warning light on when you reinstall it. I don't remember if it is the airbag light or not.

Darryl Geller in Atlanta does excellent work on clusters and ECU's. He is a technician at a Lexus dealer in Atlanta.
Don't send it to BBA Remanufacturing as they will mess it up. I learned the hard way.

Darryl Geller(404) 550-7511. He also has listings on eBay.

Good luck!

● speedometer not working reliably -not related to the ecu at all.
● speed (cruise) control not working -cruise isn't related to the cluster other than the indicator light
● tachometer not working sometimes - Not ecu controlled.

Yes you can drive without it. We fix LS400 clusters every single day from 1990-2000. Call or send us a message. Generally same day turn around.
