I am not even remotely mechanically inclined and I'm sure I'm going to sound like an idiot here but...

Our 1997 LS400 is our third car. She only gets driven about 5,000 miles a year so there will be weeks on end when she doesn't get driven.

I had to replace the front windshield about a month ago when a rock obliterated the original windscreen. I've only driven the car once since then and yesterday when I used the wipers to clear the screen of grime I found that the wiper arms were making a really loud noise at the "bottom" of their movement... almost like they were hitting metal on metal.

I looked in the owners manual and I did a search here... my question is are these arms or their attachment points adjustable? I'm thinking that when the windscreen replacement firm put the new screen in they didn't re-install the wiper arms at the proper point so the "sweep" is a little off.

Does that make sense? Am I on the right track or just an idiot?

Any/all help and/or suggestions greatly appreciated.

They are adjustable, but great care is urged in doing so, as a small adjustment can mean a large difference in the swipe. Try and keep the two arms on the driver's side parallel to each other.

I have a 2000 LS400 which has had a wiper adjustment issue that I just solved. At the high speed wiper setting, the drive blade was hitting something at its lowers point in the sweep. I thought it was the "cowl" (I think that's what it's called), but on closer inspection, it turned out to actually be hitting the passenger wiper arm. At least on the 2000 model there are two wiper adjustments. The first is a 14m nut that attaches the entire wiper blade assembly to the car. The spindle is ridged - remove the nut and the wiper assembly can be removed and reset in a different position. Though I played with it, this adjustment turned out to be unnecessary in my case. The second adjustment is at the base of the "parallel arm" - part of the wiper assembly - two small Phillips head screws. The purpose of this adjustment is to allow us to pivot the position of the wiper blade at the end of the assembly and set it as necessary. In my case, pivoting this adjustment did the trick. She's quite as a mouse. Hope this helps!

It's a simple fix remove the bolt shake the arm out and then adjust it up slightly and bolt it back on
