Default My new LS400!

Hi everyone. After five long months of searching I picked up this 98 LS400 last night. Thanks to everyone who gave input on this car and my search. I am loving the car so far. I am coming from an LS430 and I actually like this car better. Drives smoother and is a little more classic than the 430, plus it was a lot cheaper! The car is in great shape, but I had a couple of questions.

1. The drivers seat lower cushion feel loose, or like its bouncy on a spring when i hit a bump. I drove another 400 that had that as well. Is this normal?
2. While adjusting one of the middle AC vents, the black little piece that you move just literally crumbled in my hand. Can that piece be replaced or do I have to replace the whole vent assembly?
3. The telescoping wheel works great, but its really noisy. Is there a way to lubricate it?

Nice LS400! How many miles are on it? Were you able to get a good deal on it?
My 1995 has that seat issue and sometimes I hear a spring noise.

Nice car!
My 95 also has a slightly springy seat. It also feels like it slides to the left and right just a fraction of an inch when going through curves. Probably just need to tighten something.
My steering wheel is louder than I like. It usually goes in and up when I take out the key but it doesn't always return all the way to the previous position when I put the key back in. I'm going to take it apart and see if it needs some cleaning and fresh grease.
The power window motors are the loudest thing on my car. Not sure I can do anything about that though.
Enjoy your ride!

springy seat is normal. it also depends on the previous owner, if they were *ahem* on the heavier side.

as for the steering wheel, its the telescoping motor that is loud not the tilt. what i did was to set the wheels as far back as possible so all it does it tilt and not telescope at all. not the best fix i understand.

as for the vent, lexus only sells the whole vent assembly. best to find a replacement online from a recycler or live with it. welcome to the site!

There's the pics. Thanks for sharing. Nice car and great job on the price..not sure how you got him down over $k off is asking price, but great job. Love to see someone get a cream puff that's been well taken care of. Enjoy the ride...and I too like the ride/feel/look of the 400 over the 430...thus the 430 is a lonely garage queen.

Looks very clean! I'm surprised you like the 400 more than the 430. I mean, it's totally different and not like the previous line where they're all similar.

No plans for modifications, I am an all stock kinda person. I had originally years ago set out to buy an LS400, but wanting the latest and greatest and bought a used 430. Don't get me wrong i loved the car, but it was too big for me and a little too fancy. This 400 is classic and elegant but not flashy and showy. I really like that. This car is also a lot less money and I don't feel like I am giving anything up from the 430. I would never buy a 430 with nav, air suspension etc. I like the base models that are solid and will last forever, so this 400 fits me perfectly.

That is a clean 400. Congrats. I loved mine. I have a 460 now, but would love to grab a nice condition 400 as well. That thing is mint.

timmy how did you get it to not telescope? Tilt is great but its unnecesary for the wheel to telescope every dang time! Id also like to wire my tilt so everytime driver door is opened and car is running it will tilt up automatically.

according to his entry... "what i did was to set the wheels as far back as possible "...

If you set the steering wheel at it's furthest point away from the driver, then it won't have anywhere to telescope to, to get out of the way... will only tilt

Question. So I think the speedometer is off. Last night I was driving and my wife was ahead of me in her car. The speedo said I was going 70 and she was going 60, and I was not catching up with her. Drove this morning and just driving in the right lane at the speed limit I am getting passed like crazy. The speedo feel 10-15mph off. Any thoughts on how to remedy this?
