Default Drivers Side Seatbelt Wont Retract

My drivers seat belt wont retract back to its original position. It used to take effort to put it back and now it just stays out and wont whined back in...

What can it be, do I need a new seat belt assembly?

Apparently it's a common problem and Lexus might fix them since it's a safety issue. Search this forum for seat belt retractors. I've seen threads with good info.
My 95 does this too.

it's a 20 year old car, the retractors wear out.
Lexus isn't going to warranty it as it's not a defect and it's well out of service life.

so what are our options? how would we even go about getting new seat belts. does lexus still sell these? a pick n pull wont help since the stuff there would be equally as old and busted.

Has anyone called? What were the instructions given. My 95 has very weak tension on both front belts.

I called today. It seems like they might fix it. I called Lexus Canada told them my problem. They made a file with my vehicle and told me to bring it in to a Lexus dealership to get it inspected first and most likely they will fix it.

I haven't called my local dealer yet. I will tomorrow.

I'll keep you guys posted.

let me make myself clear.

Lexus is under no legal obligation (ie federal mandate) to fix it for your or everyone else old cars' seatbelts.

If they choose to assist on a case-by-case basis that would be a different matter.
